A huge public gathering titled ‘March for Gaza’ is being held in the capital Dhaka today, Saturday (April 12, 2025) to protest Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and express solidarity with them. Although it was scheduled to start at 3 pm, thousands of people have been gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan since morning, most of whom have come from different districts of the country.
The Shahbagh, Doel Chattar and Nilkhet areas in the center of Dhaka have been bustling with processions since morning. Participants were seen carrying placards with the national flags of Bangladesh and Palestine, messages of sympathy and protest slogans.
This exceptional program organized under the banner of ‘Palestine Solidarity Movement Bangladesh’ will continue until Maghrib. The organizers hope that this will be the largest public gathering in solidarity with Palestine in Dhaka’s history. They claim that several lakhs of people from all over the country are participating in this public gathering.
The mass gathering is being presided over by Maulana Abdul Malek, the Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. It is also known that prominent Islamic thinker Mizanur Rahman Azhari, As-Sunnah Foundation Chairman Shaikh Ahmadullah and other prominent figures will also be present.
Various political and religious organizations such as BNP, Jamaat-e-Islam, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), Hefazat-e-Islam and many other organizations are participating in this program by expressing solidarity.
Palestine Solidarity Movement’s media coordinator Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf said that the procession will start from 2 pm from five points – Bangla Motor, Kakrail intersection, Zero Point, Bakshibazar intersection and Nilkhet intersection – and will converge at the mass gathering.
