The government is working to ensure that the general public can celebrate Eid in a festive atmosphere without any hindrance. The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken necessary steps in this regard to ensure that flawless security and peace and order are maintained during Eid.
The Advisor said these things while briefing journalists after the 8th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Law and Order at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (March 25, 2025) afternoon. The members of the committee participated in it under the chairmanship of the Home Affairs Advisor.
The Advisor said that today’s meeting mainly discussed the overall law and order situation. Especially, the issues to be done to ensure that the law and order situation is normal and under control on the occasion of Independence and National Day tomorrow and the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr were highlighted. He said that orders have been issued to arrest those involved in criminal activities and instigators of anti-national and destructive movements and gatherings. In order to improve the law and order situation and prevent criminal activities, it has been decided to increase the activity of law and order forces, strengthen patrols and increase intelligence surveillance. In addition, it has been decided to set up check posts at various entrances of Dhaka and increase operations in various residential hotels and slums to ensure a smooth Eid.
Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) said that a set of instructions have been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs to maintain the law and order situation during Eid. In addition to maintaining overall law and order, control rooms have been set up by the Police Department and other law and order forces to maintain road discipline. All control rooms will maintain communication with the central Joint Operation Center (01320001223) of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Stating that necessary steps have been taken to control traffic and congestion during Eid, the advisor said, the concerned authorities have been instructed to take effective measures to collect tolls quickly, including ETC (Electronic Toll Collection), to resolve traffic congestion at toll plazas including Jamuna Bridge, Padma Bridge and flyovers. Necessary measures have been taken to ensure that construction materials and long vehicles leaving from any place, including land ports and sea ports, except for vehicles transporting essential goods or passenger vehicles, cannot ply on highways or ferry on water routes for 03 (three) days before Eid and 03 (three) days after. He said, in order to ensure smooth passenger transport on the occasion of Eid, instructions have been given to the concerned departments/offices/organizations so that no additional passengers are loaded on roads, rivers and railways and no additional fares are collected, and the general public has been requested to be aware.
The Home Affairs Advisor said, to prevent theft, robbery, extortion, encroachment, organized crime and terrorist activities, it has been decided to deploy members of the intelligence agency along with the uniformed police, set up check posts on specific roads and intersections, provide money escort for money transfers, and take necessary measures to prevent and identify the spread of fake money. He said, instructions have been given to the concerned to ensure the payment of salaries and bonuses to garment/industrial workers before the Eid holidays. He said that legal action will be taken against the owners, workers and outsiders who create and fuel instability in various institutions including industrial factories.
The Advisor also said that legal and social resistance should be built against violence against women and children and rape. The government’s position against violence against women and children, including rape, is very clear – ‘zero tolerance’. He said that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take a strict stand against all forms of violence against women and children, including rape. Instructions have been given to quickly complete the investigation and submit a report to the court after listing all the violence against women that have occurred so far. A decision has been taken to ensure speedy trial and strict punishment for the criminals involved in the recent rape incidents. He also said that measures are being taken to ensure that the trial of rape cases is not only speedy, but also accurate and fair.
