Ferry service launched for the first time on the Chittagong-Sandwip route

For the first time in the country’s history, ferry services have started on the Chittagong-Sandwip route by sea. This service, launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Shipping, was inaugurated today (March 24, 2025) at 8:30 am. The new ferry service on the Banshbaria, Sitakunda-Guptochhara, Sandwip waterway in Chittagong was inaugurated by the Ministry of Shipping and the Advisor to the Ministry of Labor and Employment, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain.

After the inauguration ceremony, a grand gathering was held at the Sandwip Upazila Parishad premises in Chittagong district. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor to the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, joined the virtual platform as the chief guest and spoke. He highlighted the importance of launching this ferry service and said that it will bring positive changes in the lives of the islanders and accelerate economic activities.

Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges; Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Water Resources; Farooq E Azam, Bir Pratik, Advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief; Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, Advisor to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education; Ms. Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

In addition, Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Professor Md. Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, along with senior government officials, local dignitaries and prominent figures were present at the event.
