Japan’s Ambassador was Attends Inauguration of Jamuna Rail Bridge

Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, SAIDA Shinichi, attended the inaugural ceremony of the newly constructed Jamuna Rail Bridge in Bhuapur, Tangail. This significant infrastructure project, supported under Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), marks a milestone in enhancing connectivity and fostering economic growth in Bangladesh.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Md Fahimul Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Railways, and Mr. ITO Teruyuki, Director General of the South Asia Department at JICA headquarters. Also in attendance were representatives from the construction project team, contractors, and consultants, all of whom played pivotal roles in bringing this mega-project to completion.

The Jamuna Rail Bridge is set to significantly improve rail connectivity between the eastern and western parts of Bangladesh, reducing travel time and boosting trade and commerce. This vital infrastructure is also expected to play a key role in the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) initiative. Under this initiative, Bangladesh is envisioned as a strategic node and hub in both regional and inter-regional economic affairs, further strengthening its position as a key player in South Asia’s economic development.
