New Political Party ‘Jonotar Dol’ Formed by Former Military Officers and Politicians

A new political party named ‘Jonotar Dol’ was officially launched on Thursday (20 March, 2025) at an event held at Krishibid Institute in the capital. The party comprises former military officers, former leaders of various political parties, former bureaucrats, and NGO workers. The party’s slogan is ‘Insaaf Zindabad’ (Long Live Justice).

Retired Brigadier General Md. Shamim Kamal has been appointed as the convener of the party, while Major (Retd.) Del H. Khan has been named as the chief coordinator and spokesperson. However, the full committee of the party will be announced after Eid.

The top leaders of Jonotar Dol have stated that although former military officers will play a significant role, the party will also include people from various social and professional backgrounds. The party plans to field candidates in all 300 parliamentary constituencies and intends to nominate individuals with unblemished reputations.

Most of the party’s members are retired military officials. Additionally, former government officials, retired managing directors of banks, and influential businessmen are also part of the party. Some businessmen with ownership in media organizations have also joined this political venture.

The inauguration event began at 3:30 PM with a recitation from the Holy Quran. Following this, tributes were paid to those injured in the July-August uprisings. The event featured speeches from private university students, NGO representatives, freedom fighters, and prominent individuals.

Representatives from various political parties also spoke at the event, including Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, General Secretary of the Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party); former minister Nazim Uddin Al Azad; former Member of Parliament Siraj Uddin Ahmed; former politician Azam Khan; Major General (Retd.) Fazal Ibne Sharekhuzaman; Lieutenant General (Retd.) Sabbir Ahmed; Major General (Retd.) Ismail Faruq Chowdhury; and former student leader Mastuq Hasan Joy, among others.
