Army Chief awarded Presidential Medal of Honor during Central African Republic visit

Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, PSC, returned home on Thursday (06 March 2025) after his visit to the Central African Republic. During the visit, the Army Chief was briefed about the various activities of the Bangladeshi contingents and Bangladeshi peacekeepers deployed in the UN peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. During this visit, he provided his valuable guidance. The Army Chief met with the Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) Ms. Valentine Rugwabiza and Force Commander Lieutenant General Humphrey Nyone. During this visit, he held important discussions on various issues of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in UN peacekeeping.

The Army Chief participated in a bilateral meeting with the Chief of the Central African Republic Armed Forces (FACA), General Mamadou Zephirin. In the meeting, the Army Chief discussed bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the armies of the two countries. Later, the President of the Central African Republic and the Chief of Army Staff inaugurated the Touadéra Community Clinic built by the Bangladesh Army in the Central African Republic as part of the assistance provided to civilians under the peacekeeping mission. The Chief of Army Staff also held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Central African Republic, Faustin-Archange Touadéra. In recognition of his significant contribution to the overall development of the people of the Central African Republic, especially in the field of medicine, the President conferred the honorary presidential title on the Chief of Army Staff of the Central African Republic Bangladesh Army.

The Chief of Army Staff also visited the contingents of the Bangladesh Army deployed in the Bangui area of ​​the Central African Republic. It is expected that this visit of the Chief of Army Staff of the Bangladesh Army will further strengthen the friendly relations between the Central African Republic and Bangladesh as well as help in boosting the morale of the Bangladeshi peacekeepers stationed there. It is worth noting that the Army Chief visited the Central African Republic on 03 March 2025.
