Corruption has taken place in the entire economy of the country – Trade Advisor

Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said, corruption has taken place in the entire economy of the country in the past. Unnecessary projects and money laundering have caused great damage to the economy of this country.

He said this as the chief guest in the first session of the two-day conference on “Recommendations of the Task Force on Economic Restructuring” organized by the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) at the BRAC Center in the capital on Monday (February 24, 2025) morning.

Sheikh Bashiruddin said, corruption has taken place in the banking sector and various infrastructure construction.

To strengthen the economy, we need to diversify our export products and increase the skills of our workers.

He said, most of our raw materials come from abroad. Initiatives must be taken to increase exports by increasing labor productivity, reducing production costs of products and increasing efficiency.

The first session of the conference was presided over by K.A.S. Murshid, former Director General of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) and Chairman of the Task Force on Economic Strategy Redefinition.

CPD Chairman Professor Rehman Sobhan, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member and former Commerce Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, CPD Honorary Fellow Dr. Mostafizur Rahman, Executive Director Fahmida Khatun and BDJobs CEO A.K.M. Fahim Mashrur were present at the event.
