Zakat important in establishing social justice: Business Advisor

Business Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the role of Zakat is important in establishing social justice. Zakat has its beauty and impact in the global social system.

He said this in his speech as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Role of Islamic Social Finance in Economic Empowerment and Human Development’ at the Aloki Convention Center in the capital on Saturday (February 22, 2025) afternoon.

Sheikh Bashiruddin said that one of the most memorable methods of wealth distribution is Zakat. People should be encouraged to pay Zakat and the impact of Zakat should be made visible in the society.

The advisor said that Zakat is a transfer process for poverty alleviation. If leadership without ethics is created, there will be no balanced distribution of wealth. We want a balanced society – we want moral leadership.

He said, if the taxation system does not work properly in a free market economy, then social justice cannot be ensured. Now, people’s success is judged by their consumption capacity. He mentioned that their self-respect, respect and social responsibility are not judged.

He also said, many young lives had to be sacrificed in the July Uprising to eliminate inequality in society, but inequality still exists. To eradicate it, we need a balanced distribution of wealth. As a regulator, we have to implement our moral and religious responsibilities in a coordinated manner.

The keynote at the seminar was presented by Dr. M. Emranul Haque, Associate Professor of the Department of Microeconomics at the University of Manchester, UK.

Under the chairmanship of Hossain Zillur Rahman, Advisor on Economics and former Caretaker Government, World Zakat and Waqf Secretary General Datuk Dr. Mohammad Ghazali Noor spoke as the Guest of Honor.

The panel discussion at the seminar included former Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid, Head of the Department of Economics at United International University Dr. Mohammad Omar Farooq, Chairman of Tarbiyah Education Network Professor Mukhtar Hossain, CEO of CZM Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia, and Convener of the Executive Council of the Center for Zakat Management and Group Director of Rahim-Afroz Group Munwar Misbah Moin.

Earlier, Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin inaugurated the 13th Zakat Fair 2025. The Center for Zakat Management (CZM) organized the 2-day Zakat Fair. There are stalls of various financial and Zakat institutions, a consultation desk for calculating Zakat and answering various questions related to Zakat, and an Islamic book stall.
