Police verification requirement relaxed for passport issuance

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a circular on Tuesday (February 18, 2025) relaxing the requirement for police verification for passport issuance.

The circular signed by Kazi Golam Tausif, Additional Secretary of the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs, states,

“The government has taken the following decisions to simplify passport services:

(a) In the case of new passport applications, applicants will be issued passports without police verification based on the information in the national identity card verified online;

(b) In the case of new passport applications for Bangladeshi citizens and minors residing abroad, applicants will be issued passports without police verification based on the information in the birth registration certificate verified online; and

(c) In the case of reissue of passports, if the basic information required with the existing passport (own name, names of parents, date of birth, place of birth) changes, the passport can be issued using the information provided in the national identity card.”
