Home Affairs Advisor calls for emphasis on improving the quality of education

Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) has called for emphasis on improving the quality of education.

The advisor made this call to the concerned while speaking as the chief guest at the 133rd annual sports competition and award distribution ceremony of Ichhapura Government Model High School in Sirajdikhan Upazila of Munshiganj district on Monday (February 17, 2025) afternoon.

The advisor said that education has expanded compared to the past, but the quality has not increased. Now education has become a business. Teachers are also responsible for this, along with all of us. Addressing the teachers, he said that it is not enough to pass students by simply increasing the marks, the merit of the students should be properly reflected in the evaluation. There can be no compromise on the quality of education.

Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that one of the main problems of Bangladesh is corruption. And if corruption can be controlled, the country will move forward. He called on the students to form a united social movement against corruption. He said, another big problem of our country is the spread of drugs. The youth are getting addicted to it. It is important to form a social movement against this too. He also said, sports practice should be increased in the educational institutions. This will keep the youth away from drugs and engage themselves in creative work.

Describing various development activities in Munshiganj district, the advisor said that about 700 crore taka has been allocated for the development of roads and infrastructure in this district. He said, a medical college will be established in Munshiganj, for which a suitable place is being sought.

Acting Principal of Ichhapura Government Model High School Md. Jamal Hossain Miah presided over the program, and Munshiganj District Police Superintendent Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ataul Gani Osmani, eminent social worker and Chairman of the International Farakka Committee Tipu Sultan, Sirajdikhan Upazila BNP President Abdul Quddus Dhiren, Ichhapura Union BNP Vice President Md. Wahiduzzaman Milon and others spoke as special guests.

Earlier, the main program began with the performance of the national anthem. Students performed solo and group songs at the program. In addition, a basket ball game was held with the participation of former students of the school.
