Government Aims to Transform Bangladesh into a Robust Manufacturing and Investment Hub: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

Desk Report:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that the government is working to transform Bangladesh into an attractive destination for investment and a robust hub for manufacturing and investment.

He made these remarks on Saturday morning (October 3) while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the ‘Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026,’ organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital.

The Prime Minister said, “We are turning Bangladesh into an attractive destination for investment. Simultaneously, we are building the country into a strong hub for manufacturing and investment. We aim to generate massive employment opportunities across all sectors, including manufacturing, services, and exports.”

He emphasized that policy certainty is crucial for investors and noted that this assurance would be provided through the continuity of long-term policies.

The Prime Minister further mentioned that various initiatives have been undertaken to equip the country’s youth with skills and competence. Additionally, the government is working to ensure transparency, accountability, and freedom of speech.

Regarding healthcare, Tarique Rahman stated that healthcare services must reach every household. To this end, the government is working to recruit 100,000 healthcare workers—approximately 80 percent of whom will be women—to provide primary medical care, health advice, and necessary referral services at the grassroots level.

He added that the government places special importance on maternal and child health.

Speaking on the education system, the Prime Minister said the government aims to create a system that prepares students for real life, rather than merely for obtaining certificates. Efforts are underway to ensure a joyful learning environment.

He noted that culture, sports, values, and ethics would play a significant role in the curriculum to help shape children’s character. Opportunities will also be created for students to learn a third language, and the expansion of technical and vocational education will be pursued alongside general education. The Prime Minister stated that the government has taken initiatives to provide free uniforms, school bags, mid-day meals, and scholarships to students starting from the first grade. Additionally, the scope of free education for girls is being expanded up to the undergraduate level.

The ‘Bay of Bengal Conversation’ is being held for the fifth time, organized by the Centre for Governance Studies. Diplomats, policymakers, researchers, and experts from various countries attended the inaugural session, alongside former Serbian President Boris Tadić and former Malian Prime Minister Moussa Mara.
