Diplomatic Desk:
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has emphasized on strengthening institutional cooperation between the two countries to develop Bangladesh-China bilateral trade relations and expand investment.

On Wednesday (August 26, 2026) afternoon, FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Haque paid a courtesy call on Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka, Mr. Yao Wen. During this, he emphasized on improving institutional ties between the private sectors of both countries.

During the meeting, FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Haque highlighted the potential for investment in Bangladesh. He urged Chinese entrepreneurs to set up industries in Bangladesh’s special economic zones, especially in Chittagong and Khulna. At this time, he assured the FBCCI of its full support in conducting business in Bangladesh for Chinese businessmen and entrepreneurs.
During the discussion, FBCCI Administrator Md. Fazlul Haque said that developing institutional relations and coordinated initiatives between FBCCI, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) are very important for expanding trade and investment between the two countries. At the same time, he also mentioned China’s simplification of visa procedures for Bangladeshi businessmen to further facilitate commercial communication between the two countries.
At this time, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen said that the Chinese Embassy is ready to work with great sincerity to take China-Bangladesh bilateral trade relations to a new height. He highlighted the potential for trade and investment in Bangladesh in the electric vehicles (EV), fruits and processed agricultural products, renewable energy and tourism sectors.
The meeting was attended by FBCCI Secretary General Md. Alamgir and senior officials of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, among others.
It is worth noting that although bilateral trade between Bangladesh and China has increased significantly in the past decade, Bangladesh’s exports to China are relatively low. In the 2024-2025 fiscal year, Bangladesh exported goods worth about $694 million to China. In contrast, it imported goods worth about $18.19 billion from China. This is about 26 times more than exports. The FBCCI administrator has called on Chinese investors to invest in Bangladesh to reduce this trade deficit.
