BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has been elected as the 23rd President of Bangladesh. The votes were counted publicly after the presidential election in the session room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday (August 20).
After the counting, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the election officer for the presidential election, AMM Nasir Uddin, announced the election results.
BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir won the presidential election by defeating the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-led Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed.
A total of 343 valid votes were cast in the election. Of these, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir received 255 votes. On the other hand, Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed received 88 votes.
Voting began at 2 pm on Thursday. Voting continued until 5 pm as scheduled. Later, the votes were counted publicly in the session room of the National Parliament Building.
