The first meeting of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce of the 13th National Parliament was held on Tuesday (18 August 2026) at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of the Committee Chairman Md. Khaled Hossain Mahbub.
The meeting was attended by committee members and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, Md. Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abul Hossain Khan, Md. Abul Kalam, Helen Jerin Khan, Syed Zainul Abedin, Gazi Enamul Haque and Abdul Muntakim.
The meeting was attended by the heads of the Ministry of Commerce and all the organizations under the ministry and their introductions and exchange of views. At this time, the committee was informed about the activities of the ministry and its organizations.
The activities of the Bangladesh Competition Commission were discussed in detail in the meeting. It was recommended that the Competition Commission’s institutional expenditure in the last 10 years since its establishment, the amount of fines collected by the commission and detailed information on pending cases be presented in the next meeting.
In addition, the meeting discussed the reduction of government subsidy in the case of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), dealer appointment process and related policies.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, the Chairman of the Competition Commission, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry, and the concerned officers and employees of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat were present in the meeting.
