Desk Report:
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the biggest challenge is to remove the confusion among the people about revenue management. He said that the people currently want to see the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as a reliable and trustworthy institution. In particular, taxpayers expect the NBR to be an institution they trust.
The Prime Minister said these things in response to a question during the speech of the chief guest at the ‘Revenue Conference-2026’ organized at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Tuesday (August 18, 2026) morning.

The Prime Minister said that it is possible to gain the trust of the people through efficient and sustainable revenue management. Addressing the revenue officials, he said that the officials must take the responsibility of meeting the expectations of the taxpayers. The current government wants to make the NBR, i.e. the country’s revenue structure, more people-friendly.
He said that the world economy is changing rapidly. One after another, cutting-edge technologies are being developed, and the pattern of international trade is changing. Along with the creation of new models in business and commerce, various challenges are also being created. At the same time, international tax and revenue management have also changed.
The Prime Minister said that it is the need of the hour for revenue officials to acquire multi-dimensional skills to deal with the economic problems, possibilities, benefits and challenges of the changing world. Revenue management must be made more efficient, transparent and people-friendly in line with the modern economy.
Earlier, the formal activities of the ‘Revenue Conference-2026’ began with the performance of the national anthem. Later, an open discussion was held on revenue collection and management.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir addressed the conference.
The conference was jointly organized by the Internal Resources Division of the Ministry of Finance and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
