FICCI Roundtable Discussion to Strengthen Bangladesh-Korea Trade and Investment Cooperation

Diplomatic Desk:

Bangladesh is preparing to graduate from Least Developed Country (LDC) status. In this context, there is increasing importance on strengthening relations with international trade and investment partners. In continuation of this, a roundtable discussion was held with the aim of further strengthening the long-term economic partnership between Bangladesh and Korea.

Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) recently organized this roundtable discussion with Mr. Yoo Han-ku, Minister of Commerce of the Republic of Korea and his delegation at the Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel in Dhaka.

The main topic of the discussion was the Bangladesh-Korea Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). In addition, various opportunities and possibilities for deepening cooperation in trade, investment, technology and logistics between Bangladesh and Korea in the post-LDC period were discussed.

FICCI Board Members Jahangir Sadat, Ziad Shatara, Habibur Rahman Bhuiyan and Shams Zaman and Executive Director T.I.M. Nurul Kabir participated in the meeting. The entire discussion was moderated by FICCI Executive Director T.I.M. Nurul Kabir.

In addition, Korea-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KBCCI) President Shahab Uddin Khan, Advisor Mustafa Kamal, Secretary General Million Park, Directors Edward Kim and Shahriar Kamal participated in the discussion.

The speakers at the meeting said that Bangladesh will face a new reality in the global trading system after its transition from LDC. At this time, strategic economic partnerships are very important for maintaining market advantages, attracting new investments, diversifying exports and increasing technological capabilities.

The discussion emphasized on expanding trade and investment between Bangladesh and Korea, as well as technology transfer, cooperation in the industrial sector, and further enhancing Bangladesh’s participation in regional and global supply chains.

The participants felt that the proposed Bangladesh-Korea CEPA could provide a more institutional and long-term basis for the economic relations between the two countries. At the same time, such dialogue will play an important role in creating new opportunities for trade and investment and achieving sustainable economic growth through the active participation of the private sector.

The roundtable discussion emphasized on continuing mutual cooperation to make Bangladesh-Korea economic relations more dynamic, multifaceted, and sustainable in the post-LDC era.
