Agreements signed with closed Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and PRAN-RFL Group and Hamco Group in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman

The government has leased three closed state-owned jute mills to two private companies. An agreement was signed with Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) and PRAN-RFL Group and Hamco Group in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today, Tuesday (August 11, 2026).

According to the agreement, Jatiya Jute Mills Limited of Sirajganj and Star Jute Mills Limited of Khulna have been leased by PRAN-RFL Group. And Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills Limited has been leased by Hamco Group.

The agreement was signed by the chairman of the organization, Brigadier General Md. Kabir Uddin Sikder, on behalf of BJMC. Company Secretary Aminur Rahman on behalf of PRAN-RFL Group and Managing Director ATM Mostafa on behalf of Hamco Group.

Under the agreement, three mills that have been closed for a long time will be reopened under private management. If the three mills are launched, at least 11,629 jobs will be created and about 619 crore taka will be invested. The potential annual turnover of the companies will be about 1,175 crore taka.

It was informed at the event that there is a plan to invest about 1,577 crore taka in the National Jute Mills in Raipur, Sirajganj. If the mill is launched, 5,238 jobs will be created and the annual turnover could be about 5 billion taka.

About 250 crore taka will be invested in the Star Jute Mills in Dighalia, Khulna. If the mill is launched, 5,238 jobs will be created and the target is a turnover of about 5 billion taka per year.

On the other hand, there is a plan to invest about 212 crore taka in the Platinum Jubilee Jute Mills in Khalishpur, Khulna. If the mill is launched, at least 1,153 jobs will be created. The potential annual turnover of the company is about 175 crore taka.

It was informed at the event that out of the 25 mills of BJMC that have stopped production, it has been decided to start 20 under private management on lease basis. Already, the lease of 14 mills has been completed and possession has been handed over to the lessees. Production has started in 9 of these mills.

Among others, Commerce, Industry and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, Textiles and Jute Secretary Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury and senior officials of BJMC and the leased institutions were present at the event.
