Colonel Oli Ahmed is the candidate of the 11-party alliance in the presidential election

Desk Report:

The name of Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed has been announced as the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the upcoming presidential election.

This decision was taken at a meeting of the 11-party alliance held at the official residence of the opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman on Mintu Road in the capital at around 11:30 am on Sunday (August 9, 2026). The meeting was presided over by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and members of the party’s executive council were present in the meeting. In addition, the coordinator of the 11-party alliance Dr. Hamidur Rahman Azad and top leaders of the alliance’s partner parties also participated in the meeting.

After the meeting, National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam told reporters that it has been decided to nominate LDP Chairman Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed as the candidate of the 11-party alliance in the presidential election.

The meeting, in addition to determining potential candidates for the presidential election, also discussed the next steps of the alliance in view of political compromise and the elections.

The meeting was also attended by LDP Chairman Col. (retd.) Oli Ahmed, Jagpar Rashed Pradhan, Khelafat Majlis Mamunul Haque, NCP convener Nahid Islam and Nasiruddin Patwari, and other leaders of the 11-party alliance.
