Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, MP, signed the condolence book opened on behalf of the Bangladesh government at the Qatar Embassy in Gulshan on Monday (July 13, 2026) on behalf of the Bangladesh government on the death of former Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He signed this condolence message as the senior-most minister of the government.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir was present at the time.
In the condolence message, the Minister expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. He expressed deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the government of Bangladesh, the people of Bangladesh and on his own behalf, the government of Qatar, the royal family and the brotherly people.
The Minister noted that Bangladesh values the long-standing close, sincere and brotherly relations with Qatar with great importance.
He further said that the Bangladesh government will observe half a day of state mourning on Thursday, July 16, 2026, as part of its mourning for the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. In addition, a delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly will visit Doha to express Bangladesh’s solidarity and condolences to His Highness the Amir, the royal family and the brotherly people of Qatar.
