Chief Whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament Md. Nurul Islam, MP has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of former Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament, eminent jurist and renowned politician Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar.
In a condolence message, the Chief Whip said, “Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar was a wise parliamentary figure, renowned jurist and patriotic politician. His contribution to the development of the state and democratic institutions will be remembered forever. As the Speaker of the National Parliament, he enriched parliamentary democracy by performing his duties with skill, wisdom and impartiality. His death is an irreparable loss for the political and parliamentary arena of the country.”
The Chief Whip prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant him Jannatul Firdous. At the same time, he expressed his deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members, relatives, colleagues, well-wishers and appreciators.
It is worth noting that Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar was born on December 1, 1931, in Nayabari village of Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district. After earning his MA and LLB degrees from Dhaka University, he obtained his Barrister-at-Law degree from Lincoln’s Inn, London, UK. After returning home, he established himself as a renowned lawyer of constitutional, civil and criminal law in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
He served as the Speaker of the Eighth National Parliament from October 28, 2001 to January 25, 2009. He served as the Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Minister of Education, Minister of State for Public Works, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of State for Land.
