Deputy Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP has expressed his condolences on the death of former Speaker Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar.
Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar was born on December 1, 1931 in Nayabari village of Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district and died on July 12, 2026 at 4:19 am at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in the capital Shyamoli (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He was 94 years old at the time of his death.
Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar obtained MA, LLB and LLM degrees from Dhaka University. Later, in 1961, he went to the UK for higher education and obtained the ‘Barrister-at-Law’ degree from Lincoln’s Inn, London. After returning home, he joined the legal profession and established himself as a renowned expert in constitutional, civil and criminal law in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
He served as the Speaker of the Eighth National Parliament from October 28, 2001 to January 25, 2009.
He held various important positions in the cabinet of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. At various times, he served as the Minister of State for Housing and Public Works, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Land, Minister of Education and Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
It is worth noting that Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar also served as the Acting President.
In a condolence message, Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament Barrister Kaiser Kamal MP prayed for the forgiveness of the departed soul and expressed his condolences and deep condolences to his bereaved family.
