Speaker of the National Assembly of Bangladesh Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, MP has expressed his condolences on the death of former Speaker Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar.
Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar was born on December 1, 1931, in Nayabari village of Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh district and died on July 12, 2026 AD at a hospital in the capital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He was 94 years old at the time of his death.
In a condolence message, Speaker of the National Assembly Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed his condolences and deep sympathy to his bereaved family.
He earned MA and LLB degrees from Dhaka University. Later, in 1961, he went to the UK for higher education and obtained a ‘Barrister-at-Law’ degree from Lincoln’s Inn, London. After returning to the country, he joined the legal profession and established himself as a renowned expert in constitutional, civil and criminal law in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
Barrister Zamir Uddin Sarkar served as the Speaker of the Eighth National Parliament from October 28, 2001 to January 25, 2009.
It is worth noting that he held various important positions in the cabinet of late President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. At various times, he served as the Minister of State for Public Works and Urban Development, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Minister of State for Land, Minister of Education and Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. .
