Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the security system must be operated in such a way that the head of government does not feel isolated from the people. He urged the members of the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR) to maintain the natural communication and trust relationship between the head of government and the people in formulating the security strategy.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a program organized to mark the 51st founding anniversary of the Presidential Guard Regiment (PGR) at Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday (July 5, 2026) afternoon.
The Prime Minister said, “As the head of a democratic government, I want to maintain trust and reliance on the trust and love of the people. Therefore, the security strategy should not push the head of government away from the people. It is important to arrange the security system in such a way that the people do not feel isolated from the head of government. I urge you to pay special attention to this matter.”

She said that specially selected and trained members from the Bangladesh Army serve in the PGR. The President Guard Regiment is a specialized organization under the army. Therefore, the efficiency and dedication of the force must be highlighted by properly fulfilling the duties assigned to the members with a combination of professionalism, loyalty and discipline.

Describing the duties of the PGR as very challenging, the Prime Minister said that in addition to ensuring the security of the state-declared very important persons, the PGR also has to fulfill the duties of various state ceremonies. The loyalty, sense of responsibility and duty of the force in performing these duties have established them as a disciplined and efficient force.
At the ceremony, the Prime Minister cut a cake and inaugurated the 51st founding anniversary of the PGR. Later, she planted a sapling at the PGR headquarters.
At that time, the Prime Minister inquired about the family members of the five PGR members who were martyred along with martyred President Ziaur Rahman in Chittagong and exchanged greetings with them.
