EU Ambassador paid a courtesy call on Trade Advisor

Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that Bangladesh fully respects the International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention. We have a clear roadmap for implementing the Convention.

The Adviser said this during a courtesy call on Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh, at the Trade Adviser’s office on Tuesday (3 December 2024) afternoon.

During the meeting, they discussed in detail bilateral trade, enhancing mutual cooperation, implementing the ILO Convention and bringing back laundered money.

The Trade Adviser said that Bangladesh has a large population. Most of them are young people. Our goal is to develop them into a skilled workforce and to achieve economic liberation for the country by harnessing the power of youth.

Stating that we are working on keeping the supply chain of daily necessities running, the advisor said, “The prices of several products have already come down. The government has reduced the duties on many products to reduce prices.”

European Union Ambassador Michael Miller said that the free trade agreement will play a role in energizing trade and commerce between the two countries. He also expressed his expectation that foreign direct investment from Europe to Bangladesh will increase if the investment environment improves.

The Head of Delegation of the European Union expressed his interest in providing logistical and expert manpower assistance in quickly bringing back money smuggled and stolen abroad.

Additional Secretary (Export) of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Abdur Rahim Khan was present at the time.
