A delegation from Japanese biotechnology company Euglena Co., Ltd. met with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to discuss possible collaboration in improving the health and nutrition of workers in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector in Bangladesh.
The meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Dhaka on Thursday (June 4, 2026) was attended by Mohammed Sohel, Coordinator and Director of the Japan Market Strategy Development Committee, Nafis-Ud-Doula, Director, and Kazi Sarwar Habib and Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, Advisors of the Japan Market Strategy Development Committee.
The meeting discussed initiatives to support the health and welfare of workers in the ready-made garment industry. In particular, both sides exchanged views on the potential of microalgae-based nutritional supplements among workers.
Euglena Company, which has been operating in Bangladesh for more than two decades, presented its innovative microalgae-based nutritional solution to address the nutritional deficiencies of workers and ensure overall well-being.
BGMEA said that ensuring the health, safety and welfare of garment workers is one of the organization’s priorities. They are interested in taking new and effective initiatives to implement this goal. Various aspects of potential cooperation were discussed in the meeting and both sides expressed interest in working more in detail on this issue in the future.
It is worth noting that in addition to strengthening trade relations between Bangladesh and Japan, BGMEA is exploring partnership opportunities with various international organizations to ensure worker welfare and sustainable development.
