Desk Report:

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has said that artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and digital capabilities are now not just technical issues, but have become one of the main conditions for national security, policy-making and survival in global competition. He said that if digital capabilities lag behind, national policies, security strategies and important information can easily be threatened in the future.

The minister said these things at a seminar titled ‘Cyber Security and Threat Intelligence’ organized by the Young Engineers Chapter of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) at Ramna in the capital on Tuesday (May 19, 2026).

In this reality, it is essential for Bangladesh to survive by creating skilled human resources, incorporating digital knowledge into the education system, and ensuring a deep understanding of technology at the policy-making level. He called on technologists and researchers to make policymakers as well as the general public aware of the technological realities and potential risks.

The minister emphasized on identifying suitable talents from among the country’s youth and developing them as experts in advanced technology and digital security sectors.

Engineer Md. Redwan Zaman Anik presented the keynote address at the seminar. Sabbir Mostafa Khan, General Secretary of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), delivered the welcome address.

The seminar, organized under the chairmanship of Engineer Md. Tofazzel Hossain, Chairman of the IEB Young Engineers Chapter, was attended by Engineer Riazul Islam Riju and Engineer Shahrin Islam Tuhin, President of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), among others.
