To maintain security, discipline and normal traffic flow at the capital’s cattle market on the occasion of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Azha, strict action will be taken against the lessee concerned if he is involved in pulling, coercion or irregularities in cattle carts or animal-carrying vehicles outside the market or on the road, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Additional IGP Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, BPM-Service.
He gave this instruction in his speech as the president at a special coordination meeting held on Tuesday (May 19, 2026) at 11 am at the conference room of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police headquarters on the collection, storage, marketing of sacrificial animal skins and the safety of vehicles carrying raw skins, as well as overall law and order and traffic management in Dhaka metropolis.
In the meeting, the DMP Commissioner said that to maintain order in the market and ensure traffic-free roads, no animals can be kept outside the boundaries of the market. He also said that counterfeit money detection machines will be installed at the livestock market to ensure safe transactions.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmed urged the concerned authorities not to carry out any road excavation activities during this time to avoid inconvenience during the Eid pilgrimage due to road excavations. He said that the Eid pilgrimage should be made safe, comfortable and smooth with the coordinated efforts of all government agencies.
Representatives of various intelligence agencies, specialized units of the police, Bangladesh Bank, Department of Livestock, National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Fire Service and Civil Defense, Power and Energy Agencies and various service providers, as well as representatives of the Tanners Association and livestock market lessees, were present at the coordination meeting.
The participants in the meeting pledged to work together to further improve security, traffic management and livestock market management during Eid-ul-Azha.
