Photographs are documents of time: State Minister for Information and Broadcasting

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury has said that photographs are not just a play of light and shadow, but are documents of time that immortalize history. The acceptability of a news item depends on the accurate visual record of that event.

The State Minister made these remarks while delivering the chief guest speech at the inauguration of a photography exhibition organized at the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday (April 30, 2026). The exhibition was organized by the National Forum of Photojournalists, Nepal (NFPJ) with the support of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association. The exhibition has been organized as part of cultural exchange between the two countries.

The State Minister said, at the very beginning of my career, I had a strong desire to become a photojournalist. That dream of seeing life through the lens of the camera still haunts me today.

In his speech as the chief guest, Yaser Khan Chowdhury reminisced about his personal life and said, “When I visited Nepal in the nineties, the experience was, in a word, unique. The simplicity of the people and natural diversity of the country nestled in the lap of the Himalayas fascinated me. He said, such an arrangement deserves praise to strengthen the bond of friendship between the two countries.

The function was presided over by the President of the Bangladesh Photojournalist Association, Mohsin Hossain, General Secretary of the National Press Club, Ayub, spoke as a special guest at the function. Bhuiyan, President of the National Forum of Photojournalists, Nepal Pradeep Raj Ananta, among others. The program was moderated by Rawanak Hossain, Executive Committee Member of the National Press Club.

The speakers said that Nepal and Bangladesh have many geographical and cultural similarities. Through the lenses of photographers, the relations between the two countries will be further strengthened and the exchange of professionalism will increase.

After the discussion, the chief guest Yaser Khan Chowdhury officially inaugurated the exhibition by cutting the ribbon. Then, he toured the entire gallery with the invited guests. The exhibition showcased various moments of Nepal’s mountains, valleys, festivals and the lives of the common people.
