EU sees Bangladesh as a reliable development partner

Diplomatic Desk:

Michael Miller, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Dhaka, met with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 28, 2026). The meeting, held at the minister’s office, held fruitful discussions on various aspects of strengthening cooperation between the two sides.

The meeting emphasized the need to further expand and strengthen the mutual partnership between Bangladesh and the EU. The minister expressed interest in utilizing the EU’s experience, especially in the country’s water management sector. He said that it would be very beneficial for Bangladesh if a joint experience exchange program is launched in this sector.

On the other hand, Ambassador Michael Miller referred to Bangladesh as a reliable and tested development partner of the EU. He said that the EU is interested in deepening and expanding the existing cooperation between the two sides at present.

The meeting discussed various important issues including decentralization of governance, e-governance development, progress in the infrastructure sector and sustainable development. Both sides expressed optimism that through joint initiatives and partnerships, development cooperation between Bangladesh and the EU will be further accelerated in the future.

Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan and Secretary of the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Mohang Shawkat Rashid Chowdhury, along with senior officials of the ministry and heads of subordinate departments were present at the time.
