Prime Minister Tarique Rahman calls for increased Japanese investment in agriculture, electronics and automobile sectors

A high-level delegation led by Japan’s Agriculture Minister and Special Envoy Suzuki Norikazu paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh Tarique Rahman. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office at the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat on Wednesday (April 29, 2026) afternoon.

During the meeting, the country’s Agriculture Minister congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming office on behalf of the Japanese government. He expressed hope to take the existing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan to a higher level. He also emphasized the need to quickly and effectively advance the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the two countries.

The Japanese Special Envoy expressed his interest in increasing Japanese food exports to Bangladesh and emphasized expanding cooperation in the agriculture and technology sectors.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that Bangladesh and Japan are long-time tested friends. He mentioned that one of the priorities of the current government is to create employment for the youth. To this end, he called for increasing Japanese investment in agriculture, electronics and automobile sectors.

In addition, expressing interest in exporting Bangladeshi manpower to Japan, the Prime Minister highlighted the possibility of sending skilled manpower to the healthcare and agricultural sectors. The Japanese delegation positively accepted these proposals.

The meeting invited the Bangladesh Prime Minister to pay an upcoming visit to Japan. In response, the Prime Minister expressed hope for an official visit to Japan at a convenient time.

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Agriculture and Political Advisor Nazrul Islam Khan, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir and Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Saida Shinichi were present at the time.
