BIMSTEC and Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) to work together to address maritime challenges

BIMSTEC Secretary General Indra Mani Pandey and Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Baron Waka recently met.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 82nd session of UNESCAP on Sunday (April 26, 2026). In the meeting, both leaders discussed various maritime challenges facing their member countries.

The two organizations shared common concerns, especially on maritime security, the impact of climate change and marine resource management. At the same time, opportunities for enhancing mutual cooperation between BIMSTEC and the Pacific Islands Forum in the future to address these challenges were also identified.

The meeting is expected to play an important role in strengthening the relationship between the two regional organizations and taking coordinated initiatives in the Indo-Pacific region.
