90th meeting of the Committee on Government Waterworks Lease held

The 90th meeting of the Committee on Government Waterworks Lease was held in the meeting room of the Ministry of Land on Wednesday (April 22, 2026). It was presided over by Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu. State Minister Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin and Senior Secretary of the Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed were present at the meeting.

At the meeting, the Minister said that waterworks are not private property, they are the people’s property. Therefore, in the interest of public interest, environmental conservation and the livelihood of the poor, he urged the concerned to emphasize humane, fair and sustainable management. He said that many irregularities have been committed in the past in granting these leases. He directed the Deputy Commissioner of Sunamganj to send the proposed list to the ministry as soon as possible after taking the opinions of the local elected representatives.

State Minister Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin emphasized on reviewing the recommendations coming from the district regarding the Jalmahal lease. He said that the proposals should be reviewed in the light of existing laws and policies, with the advice of local parliament members, so that inclusive and fruitful work is done and there are no loopholes in it.

It is worth noting that the proposal regarding the Jalmahal lease of Sunamganj district was raised in today’s meeting. In addition, the proposal to excavate the Bil Churail (closed) Jalmahal of Chapainawabganj district was approved in the meeting.
