The body of Girish Chandra Sutradhar, an expatriate Bangladeshi who died in Bahrain, reached the country on Wednesday (April 15, 2026) morning. The body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:30 am on an Emirates Airlines flight.
Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir received the body at the airport and handed it over to the deceased’s younger brother, Samar Chandra Sutradhar.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, along with senior officials and other concerned government officials, were present at the time.
At the body handover ceremony, the Commerce Minister said that the government is working with utmost importance for the welfare of Bangladeshis working abroad. The government has provided immediate assistance of Tk 35,000 for the cremation of Girish Chandra Sutradhar. In addition, the family of the deceased will be provided with another Tk 3 lakh financial assistance subject to the receipt of the heir certificate.
All workers going abroad are urged to register with the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) before going abroad, so that they are included in the official list of the government and can get quick assistance if needed.
He prayed for the safety and well-being of all Bangladeshis working abroad and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased Girish Chandra Sutradhar.
It is to be noted that Girish Chandra Sutradhar was a resident of Purba Maaspara area of Sylhet Sadar Upazila of Sylhet district and he died while working in Bahrain a few days ago.
