‘Bangladesh Business Seminar’ held in Tokyo to expand market for Bangladeshi export products and increase investment

A ‘Bangladesh Business Seminar’ was held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan on Friday (April 10, 2026) to expand market for Bangladeshi export products and increase investment. Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Md. Daud Ali was present as the keynote speaker at the seminar, which was jointly organized by the Embassy and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

At the seminar, the Ambassador said that Bangladesh is currently one of the fastest growing economies in the world and a safe and attractive destination for investment. Terming the recently signed ‘Economic Partnership Agreement’ (EPA) as a milestone in the trade relations between the two countries, he said that as a result of this agreement, more than 7,000 Bangladeshi products will get duty-free access to the Japanese market. He called on Japanese entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh by utilizing this huge potential. He particularly highlighted Bangladesh’s capabilities and vast skilled manpower in the ready-made garments, leather and leather products, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food processing and IT sectors.

The panellists at the seminar discussed various strategic aspects of Bangladesh’s investment environment. JETRO Dhaka Country Representative Kazuki Kataoka gave a presentation on Bangladesh’s economic progress and prospects. Shota Paku, Team Leader of Sumitomo Corporation’s Industrial Park Unit, presented detailed information on the modern and investment-friendly facilities of the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone (BSEZ). In addition, BJIT Inc. representative Ioto Tsujide highly praised the large skilled population engaged in the IT sector in Bangladesh and emphasized the need to properly utilize this vast intellectual wealth for global needs.

The seminar concluded with a question and answer session, where JETRO representatives answered various questions related to Bangladesh from Japanese businessmen and investors. The event was hosted by JETRO Senior Director Yuji Ando and welcomed by JETRO Executive Vice President Akiko Okumora. More than 100 representatives and senior officials from leading Japanese business organizations were present at the event.
