If necessary, a two-day session can be held on Friday as well – Chief Whip

Chief Whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament, Md. Nurul Islam, said that the parliament is currently under pressure to pass 133 ordinances within the 30-day period stipulated in Article 93 of the Constitution. 44 ordinances have already been passed. For quick progress, multiple ordinances are being merged and raised in the form of bills. An additional session will be held in the parliament to pass the ordinances within the stipulated time frame, and if necessary, a two-day session can be held on Friday as well.

The Chief Whip said these things during a media briefing during the break of the session in the tunnel of the National Parliament building on Wednesday (April 8, 2026).

Regarding reserved women seats, Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam said that the BNP-led alliance will get a possible 36 seats, which will be distributed among the parties in the alliance. Subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria for becoming a member of Parliament as per the constitution, priority will be given to tested and dedicated leaders based on their ability to participate effectively in Parliament and in the long 17 years of movement and struggle. Emphasis is also being given to ensuring representation of all levels of society. The final nomination will be decided as per the decision of the party chief.

He said that serious irregularities and corruption have been found in the sound system of Parliament. According to the allegations, work has been given to incompetent companies in sound engineering, equipment inconsistent with the prescribed specifications and irregularities have occurred in the tender process. It has been informed that necessary action will be taken against those responsible in this regard, and it will be implemented after the end of the session so as not to disrupt the ongoing session.

Regarding the implementation of the Anti-Terrorism Act, the Chief Whip said, our political philosophy is the philosophy of avoiding vindictive politics. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, ‘We will win the hearts of the people with love.’ Tarique Rahman believes that he is the Prime Minister of all the people of Bangladesh. He is the Prime Minister of all those who voted for him and those who did not vote for him. An impartial trial will be ensured based on the rule of law and if anyone is proven guilty, they will be tried according to the existing law, no one innocent will be harassed due to party considerations.

The Chief Whip further mentioned that many members of this new parliament have long-standing experience of movement, struggle, imprisonment and torture and they are now committed to playing a role in building the country by actively participating in the democratic process.
