Desk Report:
With the determination to build a new Bangladesh without discrimination and to give the countrymen a taste of a new people-friendly policing system, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called on new police officers to do their part to provide a taste of a people-friendly new policing system.
The minister made this call as the chief guest at the one-year basic training graduation parade of the 43rd BCS (Police) batch of trainee assistant police superintendents at the parade ground of the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, Rajshahi on Saturday (March 28, 2026) morning.
At the event, the Home Minister received the greetings and inspected the parade. Later, he distributed medals among the officers who excelled in various subjects during the training.
In his speech as the chief guest, the Home Minister said,
“We are going through a historic change where the responsibility of the new officers is much greater. The police force in the new Bangladesh, which was achieved through the sacrifices of the martyrs of the 2024 student uprising, will be kept completely free from political interference.”
He mentioned that the current government is working to establish merit and seniority as the only criteria for appointments, transfers and promotions by forming an independent and strong ‘Police Reform Commission’.
Addressing the new officers, the Minister said,
“Be a servant of the people. Timely laws are being formulated by changing the outdated police laws of the British era. You will instill fear in the minds of the criminals and peace in the minds of the innocent.”
He further added that the current government is following a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against corruption and urged the new officers to acquire the highest technical knowledge to curb digital crimes.
Calling the new officers as important change soldiers in establishing justice and the rule of law, Salahuddin Ahmed said,
“Unwavering trust in the law and responsibility and accountability towards the citizens of the country will be the main foundation of your work.”
Urging them to perform their duties with honesty, efficiency and professionalism, the minister said that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law—be it a political activist or a marginal farmer. Police officers must always remember this while performing their duties.
He said that chain of command, discipline, loyalty and integrated leadership are the main foundations of the strength of a force. He instructed the new officers to perform their duties keeping this in mind.
The minister also said that the police force is not satisfied with the current uniform. Considering this, a decision will be taken at the highest policy-making level of the government so that the police force gets back any of the previous suitable uniforms.
It is worth noting that a total of 72 trainees participated in this batch, which started on March 1, 2025. Trainee ASP Ahmed Sadman Shakib served as the parade commander at the training graduation parade.
Trainee ASP Md. Fahim Faisal won the distinction of excellence in two categories – ‘Best Probationer’ and ‘Best Academic’ for his outstanding achievements in training. In addition, Md. Arafat Hossain received the ‘Best in Field Activities’ medal, Shaon Reza received the ‘Best Horsemanship’ medal and Bapi Kumar Das was awarded the ‘Best Shooter’.
Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu and State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin were present as invited guests at the event. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir was present as a special guest and it was presided over by Principal (Additional IGP) of Bangladesh Police Academy, GM Azizur Rahman.
