Desk Report:
State Minister for Land and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin said that the Bengali nation started its struggle for liberation under the leadership of the great independence proclaimer and great hero of Bangladesh’s history, Martyr President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam. The courage and inspiration that the nation received from his historic declaration showed the way to establish an independent and sovereign Bangladesh through a long nine-month bloody struggle.
The State Minister said these things after paying tribute to the Chittagong Metropolitan BNP at the Revolution Park in Chittagong city on Thursday (March 26, 2026) on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day.
The State Minister said that the rise of fascist and autocratic forces in the country at various times after independence has repeatedly hindered the normal development of democratic institutions. He alleged that vested interests have taken this opportunity to weaken the rule of law and accountability, as a result of which the expectation of establishing a just state system based on the spirit of the Liberation War has repeatedly faced challenges.
Chittagong Metropolitan BNP convener and Chittagong-8 MP Ershad Ullah presided over the event, while Chittagong-9 MP Abu Sufian spoke as a special guest. Among others, Chittagong Metropolitan BNP joint convener Shawkat Azam Khaja, Yasin Chowdhury Liton, Kazi Belal Uddin, Shah Alam, Kamrul Islam, Iqbal Chowdhury, Md. Azam and leaders of various levels of organizations were present at the event.
