Desk Report:
Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion and cultural program organized by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday (March 26, 2026) on the occasion of the great independence and national day, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury said, true history and people’s empowerment will be the basis for building a prosperous Bangladesh. It is our moral responsibility to present the true history of great independence to the new generation. A nation gets the strength to move forward only through searching for the truth of history.
In his speech at the program organized at the National Theater Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka, the minister remembered with deep respect all the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives from the 1952 Language Movement to the great Liberation War of 1971. He said that in 1971, when the country was at an extreme juncture and leaderless, martyred President Ziaur Rahman declared independence from the Kalurghat Radio Center, which started the people’s war. He said, the true history should be protected from distortion and its contribution should be properly highlighted.
Highlighting the current economic and administrative context of the country, the minister said, we are weaving a new dream from a devastated situation. The government is determined to overcome the adverse situation that has arisen in the country’s economy and banking and insurance sectors. It should be remembered that the real sovereignty of the state lies in the hands of the people and the people exercise it through voting rights. We did not come to power to fail; rather, we want to take on all the challenges of the present and completely change the country.
Regarding the future action plan, the minister further added, our goal is to proudly showcase Bangladesh’s capabilities to the whole world. Along with making the best use of all the natural resources we have, we should also develop skilled human resources. Only then will we be able to stand tall on the world stage as a prosperous and self-reliant nation.
Expressing strong conviction about the glorious culture, the minister said, the soul of a nation is its culture. We promise to revive our culture again. Starting from the folk art of rural Bengal to every branch that is life-oriented, pure practice will be brought back. We want to create a cultural awakening that will make Bangladesh famous in the world.
After the speech, the Minister enjoyed a pleasant cultural program organized by the Shilpakala Academy. Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md. Mofidur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, officials and employees of various levels of the ministry, eminent artists and media personnel were present at the program.
