On the occasion of the great independence and national day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced the launch of ‘New Bud Sports’ to put the country’s sports on a professional and strong foundation. He said that the government is working to create a new generation of players as promised in the election manifesto.
He said these things while attending a special friendly football match of Independence Day organized by the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) at the National Stadium on Thursday (March 26, 2026) afternoon.
The Prime Minister said, ‘We had promised in our election manifesto that we want to create new players in various sports to give a professional look to the country’s sports world. For that purpose, I want to launch “Natun Kuri Sports” on the model of the traditional “Natun Kuri” program.’
She further said that the government has a comprehensive plan to produce players from the grassroots level, not just a program. ‘I want to start sports competitions at various levels, including schools, in every district, upazila and union of Bangladesh,’ she said.
The Prime Minister enjoyed the friendly match organized with the participation of former star footballers on the occasion of the great Independence Day, sitting next to the dugout of the stadium. After the match, she distributed medals among the players and while talking to journalists, she outlined the government’s future plans for the country’s sports arena.
Stressing on strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the international sports arena, the Prime Minister said, ‘Our goal is to achieve more success in international competitions in the future and bring honor to the country. For this, we need to create skilled and quality players.
Calling for the development of a healthy and prosperous sports arena regardless of party affiliation, he said, “Today, on this Independence Day, we all decide together – those who are directly or indirectly involved in sports, we will work together to take the sports world of Bangladesh forward.”
The stadium was festive with the participation of the country’s former star players in this friendly football match organized on Independence Day.
