We want to build a strong democratic government by increasing parliamentary activities – Chief Whip

Chief Whip of the Bangladesh National Parliament Md. Nurul Islam said, the current government is determined to build a strong democratic government by increasing parliamentary activities. Through parliamentary evaluation, a data-based analysis of the law-making process and institutional activities will be prepared, which will play a role in strengthening the democratic governance system in Bangladesh in the future.

He also said that with a significant number of new members of parliament elected in the 13th National Parliament election, providing necessary support to further strengthen the effectiveness of the parliament has become very important.

A team of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), consisting of international and national experts, paid a courtesy call on him at the Chief Whip’s office in the Parliament Building as part of the ‘Parliamentary Evaluation Mission’ program. The Chief Whip said these things during the meeting.

The IFES mission aimed to formulate recommendations to further strengthen democratic governance by assessing the functioning, institutional capacity and effectiveness of the National Parliament.

The meeting discussed in detail the current status of the National Parliament, institutional strength, increasing effectiveness, ensuring transparency and improving overall efficiency.

The expert team participating in the mission was composed of John Lee, Democracy and Governance Expert; Principal Nizam Ahmed, Department of Public Administration, University of Chittagong; Rumana Amin Archi, Deputy Country Director, IFES Bangladesh; and Ninad Marinkovic, Consultant and Asia-Pacific Regional Elections Advisor.
