Bangladesh Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud has participated in the two-day ‘Indo-Pacific Energy Security Ministerial and Business Forum’ that began in Tokyo, Japan. The high-level international forum, held from March 14-15, is discussing various issues related to strengthening energy security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

The high-level forum is jointly organized by the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The organizers are Council Chairman and US Secretary of State Doug Burgum, Vice Chairman and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, and Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ryosei Akazawa.
In addition to Bangladesh, the energy ministers of Australia, New Zealand, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam are also participating in this important conference.
The ministers participating in the conference are discussing in detail the strategy for building a strong and stable energy system in the Indo-Pacific region. In particular, the issue of ensuring sufficient, reliable, affordable, safe and quickly dispatchable energy in the region is at the core of the discussions.
In addition to the formal program of the forum, Power and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud is scheduled to meet with delegations from relevant countries including the United States, Japan and Brunei in several bilateral meetings.
He will also meet with representatives of various international non-governmental organizations. The main goal of these discussions is to attract foreign investment in Bangladesh’s energy sector and explore new areas of mutual cooperation.
