Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md. Zahid Hossain said, we want to move the country forward under the leadership of the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman while remaining united. The people have elected us by voting; we have to work to fulfill their promises.
The minister said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion, prayer and iftar mahfil organized by former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders of Rangpur Medical College at Emmanuel’s Convention Center in the capital Dhaka on Thursday (March 12, 2026).
He said, “For 17 years, we, all of you, have been on the streets in the movement and struggle, and in view of that, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party under the leadership of the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has got the opportunity to serve the people through a free, fair and impartial election. We want to serve the people with you, just as we want to take the country and its people forward with you.”
The minister further said, “We must support the party and government’s programs from our respective positions and ensure that no one can belittle the party’s image. Conspiracies are going on everywhere and will continue; we must dedicate ourselves to the welfare of the people from within this.”
Later, he offered prayers and supplications, seeking peace for the souls of all the martyrs.
The Iftar Mahfil was organized under the chairmanship of Dr. Abu Md. Ahsan Firoz, former joint convener of DAB, Rangpur Medical College Chhatra Dal and joint secretary general. Former DAB secretary general and member of parliament Dr. Md. Abdus Salam, former president of Central BMA and DAB Professor Dr. AKM Azizul Haque, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam and doctors were present as special guests.
