Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma called on Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram at his office at the ministry on Tuesday (March 3, 2026).
During the meeting, views were exchanged on various issues of mutual interest, including the Great Liberation War. During this, the minister recounted his personal experience, active participation and challenging moments of the war during the Great Liberation War. He also mentioned that the unwavering support of the Indian government and general public in the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 played an important role in achieving Bangladesh’s independence. For this, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the government and people of India.
The minister emphasized on further strengthening the relations between the people of Bangladesh and India. He said that India is a close neighbor of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is interested in making the relations between the two countries stronger and multidimensional based on mutual respect, trust and cooperation.
The High Commissioner said that one of the foundations of India’s diplomacy is a people-centric approach, mutual respect and trust. He stressed the importance of properly presenting the history of the great Liberation War to the new generation.
Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Israt Chowdhury was present during the meeting.
