Desk Report:
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has said that corrupt people will not find shelter in the ministry. He said that proper use of public tax money must be ensured and development work must be completed within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards. If any negligence is proven in the performance of duties, those concerned will have to face punishment.
The minister said these things at a view-exchange meeting with officials of departments and organizations under the ministry at the conference room of the Public Works Department in Segunbagicha, Dhaka on Sunday (March 1, 2026). State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manjur and Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam were present at the time.
The Works Minister told the officials that if any political pressure comes during the performance of duties, we will handle it. You will perform your duties within the existing laws of the country. You will clearly highlight the law on illegal matters and learn to say ‘no’ if necessary. You will work fearlessly and honestly.
Referring to the issue of housing for middle and low-income people in Dhaka, the Works Minister said, “If we all think constructively and take effective initiatives for the welfare of the country, their quality of life will improve.”
State Minister Ahmed Sohel Manjur said, “You will fulfill your responsibilities fearlessly. We must work responsibly to build the future of Bangladesh by avoiding past thoughts. There is no opportunity to loot the people’s hard-earned tax money without working. Our government’s position on corruption and nepotism is clear – zero tolerance.”
