‘National Martyrs’ Day’ has been observed on the occasion of the 17th martyrdom anniversary of the members of the Bangladesh Army who were martyred in the barbaric massacre that took place at the Bangladesh Rifles (now Border Guard Bangladesh) headquarters in Peelkhana on February 25-26, 2009. On the occasion of the day, a discussion meeting and Iftar program were organized in honor of the members of the martyr’s family at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment on Wednesday (February 25, 2026) evening.

The Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, was present as the chief guest at the program. He exchanged greetings with the members of the martyr’s family and inquired about them. During the discussion meeting, the members of the martyr’s family presented their various demands and relevant issues to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister listened to their statements attentively and pledged to take practical steps in stages by considering the issues raised seriously.


The Honorable Home Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Defense Advisor, Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, senior military and civilian officials, family members of the martyrs and media persons were present at the Iftar ceremony.

Special prayers and supplications were offered on the occasion of the day, seeking forgiveness for the souls of the martyrs. Through the ceremony, the nation remembers the martyred army members with deep respect and reiterates its solidarity and sympathy towards their families.
