Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Tarique Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), on his landslide victory in the national elections. At the same time, he expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral relations between Dhaka and Delhi.
After the results of the national elections were announced on Thursday (February 12, 2026), Modi shared a congratulatory message on his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) handle. In the message, he said, “I warmly congratulate Mr. Tarique Rahman for leading the BNP to a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh.”
The Indian Prime Minister mentioned in his message that this victory is a reflection of the trust of the people of Bangladesh in Tarique Rahman’s leadership. He also said, “India will always support a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh.”
Modi, referring to bilateral relations, said he was keen to work with Tarique Rahman to further strengthen Bangladesh-India multidimensional relations and advance joint development goals.
