Building integrated capacity to deal with disasters is the key to sustainable solutions: Disaster Management and Relief Advisor

Desk Report:

Disaster Management and Relief Advisor Faruk-e-Azam, Bir Pratik, said that Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country. In this reality, building integrated capacity to deal with disasters is the key to sustainable solutions.

The advisor said this while delivering his speech as the chief guest at the handover ceremony of disaster capacity equipment to the Armed Forces Division (AFD) under the Equipment Procurement Project (Phase 3) for Search, Rescue and Emergency Communication during Earthquakes and Other Disasters organized by the Directorate of Disaster Management at 14 Independent Engineer Brigade, Dhaka Cantonment on Tuesday (February 10, 2026).

The advisor said that the role of the Bangladesh Armed Forces in protecting human life and property and in rapid post-disaster recovery in disaster-prone Bangladesh is appreciated by all. He said, “I firmly believe that these equipment will make the armed forces faster, more effective and safer during disasters. These equipment will play a significant role in rescue operations, especially in remote and risky areas.”

He also said that today’s handover of these equipment has made it possible to further improve and strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces.

The advisor said that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is being reformed. Under this reform, all disaster-related activities will be coordinated with this ministry in a central role. This activity is already underway and the next government will complete this activity.

Among the notable equipment that has been handed over under this project are three heavy dozers (48-ton capacity), three dozers (20-ton capacity) and three forklifts.

These equipments are manufactured by the internationally recognized KOMATSU company. The equipments are high-capacity, durable in structure and are particularly suitable for working continuously for a long time in disaster situations.

At the event, the advisor handed over the keys of the vehicles used in the rescue operation and inspected the handed over equipment.

Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt. Gen. SM Kamrul Hasan, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Saidur Rahman Khan and Director General of the Directorate of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman, among others, spoke at the event.
