Staff Correspondent:
Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that if it comes to power by the people’s vote, BNP will not compromise on combating corruption and maintaining law and order. He also said that if it is able to form a government, the law and order situation will be strictly controlled.

Tarique Rahman made these remarks as the chief guest at a public meeting organized in support of BNP’s nominated candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency Mirza Abbas on Monday (February 9, 2026) on Pirjangi Mazar Road in Motijheel in the capital.
Expressing his strict stance on the law and order situation, he said, “If BNP comes to power, our first task will be to bring the law and order situation in the country under control. We want to build a Bangladesh where mothers and sisters can move safely, people can do business and jobs without worry, and can sleep safely at night.”

Expressing his determination to build a corruption-free Bangladesh, the BNP chairman said, “The way national leader Begum Khaleda Zia brought the country out of the grip of corruption in 2001, BNP will work against corruption in the future as well. The law will run at its own pace, no compromise will be made with anyone.”
Stressing the role of women, Tarique Rahman said, “Half of the country’s population is women. Real development of the country is not possible without involving women in the development journey. That is why BNP has announced the ‘Family Card’ program. Under this program, family cards will be delivered to housewives of hard-working families across the country and the government will provide financial assistance every month, so that the families can gradually become self-sufficient.”
Referring to farmers, he said, “The country will be good if the farmers are good. In the past, interest and agricultural land rent were waived for farmers during the BNP government. If BNP is able to form a government, agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 will be waived along with interest.”
Regarding employment opportunities for the youth, he said, “Employment arrangements will be made for the youth, regardless of gender. Various technical institutions including ICT and vocational will be established to transform the youth into skilled human resources, so that everyone, regardless of party, opinion, class, or profession, can be economically self-sufficient.”
Alleging looting in the name of development, Tarique Rahman said, “Although big projects have been carried out with the people’s tax money, basic needs like education, health, employment, and security have been neglected. If BNP comes to power, the state will be run by prioritizing the real needs of the people, not looting in the name of development.”
Addressing the voters of Dhaka-8 constituency, he said, “You have to choose the right person in the upcoming elections. You have to elect someone who is a resident of this area. No one from outside can understand the problems of the area well.”
Presenting a sheaf of rice to Mirza Abbas, the BNP candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, at a public meeting, Tarique Rahman said, “Mirza Abbas is a son of this area. You should observe him and be by his side until the 12th. After that, he will be by your side until the last day of his life.”
