The state’s responsibility to ensure the rights and security of all citizens regardless of religion and caste: Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

A high-level delegation of the Christian community of Bangladesh, led by American academic Dr. Gordon Klingenschmidt, paid a courtesy call on Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

The meeting was held at 7 pm on Wednesday (January 14, 2026) at the central office of Jamaat-e-Islami in Moghbazar, Dhaka. The 10-member delegation led by Dr. Gordon Klingenschmidt met with the Ameer-e-Jamaat. The meeting was held in a very cordial and cordial atmosphere.

During the meeting, positive discussions were held on various aspects of maintaining religious harmony, minority rights, mutual coexistence and social peace in Bangladesh.

At that time, Ameer-e-Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that Bangladesh is a multi-religious and multicultural country. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure the religious freedom and security of all citizens of this country. Jamaat-e-Islami has always stood for the rights, dignity and justice of people regardless of religion or caste.

The delegation highlighted various social and religious issues of the Christian community in Bangladesh. It also expressed its hope to further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.

Dr. Gordon Klingenschmidt praised the cordial relations existing between people of different religions in Bangladesh and highlighted the importance of continuing such dialogue.

The Ameer-e-Jamaat was accompanied by the organization’s Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Central Publicity and Media Department, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, eminent educationist Dr. Zubair Ahmed and eminent cultural figure Professor Saifullah Mansur.

The delegation also included Martha Das, General Secretary of the National Christian Fellowship of Bangladesh, Reverend Bonnie Baroi, Chairman of the Bangladesh Evangelical Revival Church, Dr. Gordon, former lawmaker of Teacher for Pastors in Bangladesh, and other leaders.

After the meeting, Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami and Head of the Central Propaganda and Media Department, briefed journalists about the delegation.
