Police clash with mobile traders in Karwan Bazar

Intermittent clashes are going on between police and mobile traders in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area. Army personnel have also joined the police at the scene to control the situation.

Eyewitnesses said that mobile traders were seen throwing bricks and stones during the clash. In response, the police fired water cannons, lathicharges and also fired sound grenades.

Traders took up positions at the Sonargaon Hotel intersection on Sunday (January 4, 2026) to protest the launch of the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) process. Since then, chases, counter-chase and tense tension have been observed.
